Hobart Hurricanes outmuscled the Melbourne Stars by a massive margin of 81 runs in the 32nd match of the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League. England batter Danni Wyatt-Hodge shone with the bat and with her fielding abilities to help her side become the first team to qualify for the tournament’s playoff-stage. 

The Stars’ skipper Annabel Sutherland won the toss and asked Hurricanes to bat first. The opening pair of Lizelle Lee and Danni Wyatt-Hodge made Sutherland regret her decision as they smashed 61 runs for the first wicket in just 6.1 overs. After Lee’s 32-run knock ended in the seventh over, Wyatt-Hodge went on to smash 71 runs off just 47 balls, with nine fours and a six. 

Later in the innings, Nat Sciver-Brunt (31) and skipper Elyse Villani (23) helped the Hurricanes post 176/4 in the allotted 20 overs. 

Furthermore, Wyat-Hodge also showcased her amazing athleticism in the second innings when Hurricanes were defending their total. She took three brilliant catches, playing a vital role in bundling out the Melbourne Stars at the double-digit score of just 98 runs in 15.5 overs. 

Danni Wyatt-Hodge also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his all-round excellence and crucial role in her side’s big win. The 34-year-old is also the leading run-scorer in the tournament’s current edition, with 416 runs in nine innings, with an outstanding batting average of 52.00, hitting four half-centuries and including an unbeaten appearance.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge had also featured for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League 2025. She featured in six games for RCB, scoring 137 runs in six innings, with an average of 22.83, including a half-century. 

However, the franchise didn’t retain her for the tournament’s next edition and subsequently, she also went unsold in the WPL 2026 auction held in Delhi.
