Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has confirmed his participation in the upcoming 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Recently released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, the 38-year-old revealed that he is excited to be joining PSL in its “new era”.
Moeen Ali, a veteran of 73 IPL games for three different franchises, last played PSL cricket back during the 2020 edition for the Multan Sultans.
Moeen Ali joins PSL to mark “another special experience”
On Monday, December 1, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali took to his Instagram account and shared a post where he made himself available for the upcoming PSL 2026 season, thus marking his return to the Pakistani T20 tournament after a gap of five years.
He wrote:
“I’m really excited to be joining HBL PSL in its New Era. The league has earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket, with high-quality competition and world-class talent across every team. Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best. I’m looking forward to being part of it all and creating some great memories along the way. Ready for another special experience Insha’Allah!”
While Moeen Ali did not officially turned down his chances of playing the IPL 2026 season in India, his decision of joining PSL may well have dented those prospects considering a major part of the two rebel T20 leagues are set to run simultaneously next year.
Last month, Moeen Ali was released by the KKR franchise after playing just six matches for them in this year’s IPL 2026 season. After spending a successful four-season stint with the CSK, the Englishman failed to replicate his magic, at least with the bat as he managed to score just five runs in two innings. Moeen Ali did struck six times with the ball in six innings in an otherwise high-scoring tournament.
