According to the emerging reports, the BCCI can't pull out of the Asia Cup encounter against Pakistan following the geopolitical conflict between the neighbouring nations over the Pahalgam terror attack. On Saturday, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released the much-awaited Asia Cup 2025 schedule.
The tournament, which commences on September 9, will witness the high-voltage clash between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan on the 14th of the month.
India Won't Withdraw From Pakistan Game; Say BCCI Sources
After the ACC unveiled the Asia Cup fixtures, scheduling the India versus Pakistan affair for September 14, the Indian fans slammed the BCCI for agreeing to play the game despite the neighbouring nation's involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Amid the speculations of the BCCI boycotting the high-voltage clash, sources close to the board revealed that India, being the hosts of the tournament, can't pull out of the game.
They stated that the Indian cricket board formally agreed to participate in the event, and it wouldn't back away from his stance despite the outrage.
"The BCCI cannot withdraw from the tournament or the match now. The decision was agreed upon after the ACC meeting. Since India is the host nation, nothing can be changed at this stage. An official-level discussion took place, and the outcome was decided accordingly. The match will go ahead as scheduled," BCCI sources were quoted as saying by IANS.
India And Pakistan Could Face Multiple Times In Asia Cup
The ACC has kept India and Pakistan in Group-A alongside Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Considering they have a stronger line-up than the gulf countries, the arch-rivals are expected to enter the Super Four stage as the best two teams from their group. So, there could be multiple face-offs between these two sides in the tournament which is slated to be played in the UAE.
