Rain Interrupts Play In St Vincent; Check How Bangladesh Can Still Qualify For T20 WC Semifinal

In an unfortunate turn of events, the high-octane face-off between Afghanistan and Bangladesh has been interrupted due to rain. After Rashid Khan's breezy cameo powered Afghanistan to 115 in 20 overs, rain arrived at Arnos Vale stadium in St Vincent, delaying the proceedings.

Meanwhile, despite losing two Super Eight matches, Bangladesh still have a chance to make a wildcard entry to the semifinal.

As per calculations, the Tigers must chase the 116-run total in only 12.1 overs to overtake Australia and Afghanistan on a superior Net Run Rate and become the second team from group-1 after India to make it into the semis.

However, if the Tigers fail to do so but end up winning the game, Australia will go ahead. On the contrary, if Afghanistan win this game, the victory will take them to the semifinal for the first-ever time in a World Cup.

Conditions for Bangladesh to qualify for Semis

  • Bangladesh need to chase 116 in 12.1 overs in order to surpass Australia and Afghanistan in terms of net run rate and head into the semis.
  • They can also qualify if they chase it in 12.5, but they need to hit a six to win it.
  • If they hit a four when the scores are level, then Bangladesh can take 12.3 overs to complete the run chase.
  • These equations are only applicable for a 20-over chase and not for a curtailed one.
