South Africa beat India by a massive 408 runs in the second Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, sealing one of their biggest overseas wins. The Proteas have successfully whitewashed the hosts with a 2-0 series win.

India, meanwhile, never looked comfortable in the 549-run chase and were bundled out for just 140 runs on Day 5.

Muthusamy & Jansen’s resistance forced India on the backfoot

The match began with South Africa setting the tone through their batting in the first innings. After a steady start from Aiden Markram (38) and Ryan Rickelton (35), the middle order built solid partnerships.

Tristan Stubbs played a patient knock of 49, while captain Temba Bavuma added 41. The real damage was done lower down the order, where Senuran Muthusamy played a brilliant innings of 109 off 206 balls.

He was well supported by Marco Jansen, who changed the momentum with a breathtaking 93 off just 91 deliveries, smashing six fours and seven sixes.

South Africa were bowled out for a strong 489, with Kuldeep Yadav picking up four wickets.

Reckless India collapsed at 201

In reply, India struggled from the start. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the lone bright spot with a fighting 58, and Washington Sundar contributed 48 lower down the order.

However, the rest of the batting looked uncomfortable against South Africa’s disciplined bowling.

Marco Jansen was outstanding, taking 6 wickets for 48 runs, as India were bundled out for just 201, trailing by 288 runs.

South Africa tightened its grip with an impossible target of 549 runs

South Africa continued their dominance in the second innings. Tristan Stubbs played the knock of the innings with a brilliant 94. Tony de Zorzi added a valuable 49, and Wiaan Mulder remained unbeaten on 35.

The visitors announced their authority by reaching 260/5, putting up a target of 549 runs to win for India.

The fourth innings was always going to be a massive challenge for India, and it soon started becoming a tale of survival rather than a chase. Early wickets fell as Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were dismissed cheaply.

Sai Sudharsan tried to hold as best he could with a painstaking 14 off 139 balls, but the scoring rate remained painfully slow, and pressure kept building. Rishabh Pant showed brief aggression but was soon dismissed.

India humbled with yet another whitewash in home series

Ravindra Jadeja was the only Indian batter who looked comfortable and positive. He scored a fighting 54 off 87 balls, hitting a few boundaries and trying to delay the inevitable. Washington Sundar added 16, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

Simon Harmer spun a web around the Indian batters, to return with an exceptional spell of 6/37.

With no real partnerships developing, India were eventually bowled out for 140, handing South Africa a comprehensive 408-run victory.

With this win, South Africa whitewashed India to seal a 2-0 series victory.
