India have once again faced a massive disappointment in a home Test series. South Africa have troubled them in the two-match series, having first won the Kolkata Test and now dominating the Guwahati Test as well. Just a year ago, they had faced a whitewash at home at the hands of New Zealand, and now the Proteas have added to that record.

Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has now taunted India for their poor run in Test cricket in the last year. He jokingly said that India never loses at home unless someone plays a special knock in Mumbai. This was in reference to his iconic 186-run knock at the Wankhede Stadium in 2012, which helped England seal the game.

“India NEVER loses at home, unless some very good players come and play some special knocks in Mumbai… What’s happened to India in the last couple years in Test Cricket?” he tweeted.

India have faced a massive downfall at home in Tests

India were known to be a very dominant side at home. Winning a match in India for any visiting team was a challenge, let alone winning the series. But in the last year, they have lost two out of their three home series, both massive whitewashes.

First, New Zealand beat them 3-0 in 2024, and now South Africa have clean-swept their two-match series. The only Test series that they won was against the West Indies earlier this year, beating them 2-0.

The Indian team now have many questions to answer after two massive losses at home in one year. Their strategy has raised many concerns, especially the changes that they have been making to their lineups. They have no Test matches scheduled in the next few months, and the management will have to take this time to reflect on what has gone wrong for them.
