England outclassed New Zealand in the second T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Phil Salt and captain Harry Brook bludgeoned swift half-centuries before ace spinner Adil Rashid hogged the limelight with the ball for the visitors.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the second T20I of the three-match series between New Zealand and England, as it panned out at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Monday, October 20.

Phil Salt, Harry Brook ramp up England to 236

English opener Phil Salt bludgeoned 85 off 56 balls with 11 fours and a six after the early loss of opening partner Jos Buttler to Jacob Duffy. Jacob Bethell at number three also cracked a hasty 24 off 12 balls, but it was captain Harry Brook’s electrifying 78 off 35 with six boundaries and five huge sixes at Christchurch that catapulted England to 236-4 in 20 overs. Tom Banton also smeared 29* from just 12 balls to turbo-charge the English innings at the death.

For New Zealand, lanky paceman Kyle Jamieson picked up figures of 2-47 with the wickets of both half-centurions, Brook and Salt in the space of just three deliveries.

Adil Rashid conquers New Zealand quest with four-fer

New Zealand got off to a flier, racing to 87-2 in nine overs despite losing Tim Robinson and Rachin Ravindra to Brydon Carse (2-27) within the first two overs. Tim Seifert clubbed 39 off 29 balls, while Mark Chapman listed a confident 28. However, middle-order failed to sustain Seifert and Chapman’s momentum as the ‘Black Caps’ slipped from 87-2 to 104-6, and eventually to 171 all out in 18 overs to fall 65 runs short of England’s total.

Captain Mitchell Santner clubbed a few from his end with 36 off 15 balls. For England, Luke Wood cleaned up the New Zealand tail with two wickets while Liam Dawson (2-38) blitzed through their middle-order. Adil Rashid was the wrecker-in-chief as the ace spinner picked up four wickets at an expense of just 32 runs in a high-scoring game to orchestrate England’s big series-leading win.
