Travis Head and Mitchell Starc stump each other in hilarious ODI cricket quiz

Ahead of the launch event for Australia's three-match ODI series against India, star pacers Mitchell Starc and Travis Head engaged in a light-hearted yet challenging quiz, testing their knowledge of each other's illustrious ODI careers. 

The friendly banter revealed an impressive recall of iconic moments, particularly from their World Cup triumphs. The quiz, which put their camaraderie on full display, saw the two players take turns asking pointed questions about career statistics and historic performances.

Starc and Head engage in a World Cup Final quiz battle

Mitchell Starc began the quiz by testing Travis Head's memory of one of the most famous overs in World Cup history.

Starc's Question: "Who did I bowl to in the first over of the 2015 World Cup final?"

Head's Answer: Recalling the iconic moment instantly, Head correctly identified Brendon McCullum as the batter.

Not to be outdone, Travis Head then turned the tables, quizzing Starc on his own fielding heroics from the 2023 final.

Head's Question: "Who did I catch in the 2023 ODI World Cup final?"

Starc's Answer: Starc had no trouble, immediately answering, "Rohit Sharma."

Starc's Question: "How many wickets did I take in the 2023 World Cup Final?"

Head's Reply: Head confirmed that he remembered the wickets yet took a bit of a time responding to the answer. Head said unconfidently, "Three?" to which Starc nodded positively.

Stumping each other on career stats

The cricket quiz between Mitchell Starc and Travis Head quickly shifted from specific match moments to broader career statistics, revealing both players’ competitive yet humorous sides. 

Starc kicked things off by asking about Head’s performance in the 2023 final. Starc guessed 123, but Head was quick to correct him, recalling his match-winning 137 off 120 balls. He joked about his dismissal, saying he "threw it away," and self-complimented with "a good hundred, though."

The focus then moved to Starc’s career achievements. Head tested himself by guessing the total number of ODI wickets Starc had taken. He came close with a figure of 228, though the correct tally at the time was 244. 

Head also asked Starc about his ODI debut year, to which Starc guessed correctly and said 2016. Finally, Starc asked about his best ODI bowling figures. After some pondering, Head said, "You've got a six[-for]," and Starc casually confirmed, "A couple, yeah." Head then correctly recalled the figures as 6 for 28 against New Zealand.

Travis and Starc's sub-par India outing

Nevertheless, though the banter was entertaining, Travis Head's 1st ODI outing against India was below-par. He managed to score only 8 runs off 5 balls as Arshdeep Singh showed him the path to the pavilion. 

Mitchell Starc, meanwhile, was impactful as he scalped Virat Kohli's precious wicket and sent him back for a duck. After winning the 1st ODI, Australia will seek a series win in the upcoming encounter on October 23.
