India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal put on display his audacious nature in the fourth innings of the ongoing second Test match against New Zealand in Pune today. Opening the batting with captain Rohit Sharma (8), Jaiswal made his intentions clear from the word go.

Having barely survived a catching dismissal on the first ball of a formidable 359-run chase, Jaiswal responded by hitting a six and a four respectively on the next two balls bowled by New Zealand pacer Tim Southee. Knowing how a ball with his name written on it could be bowled anytime on a rank-turner, the left-handed batter seems to be hell-bent on making the most of his stay in the middle.

Yashavi Jaiswal Steps Out To Take Mitchell Santner To The Cleaners

Not perturbed by Sharma’s failure, Jaiswal persisted with his all-attacking approach. A major glimpse of which was witnessed on the second delivery of the 10th over.

Chancing an opportunity of accumulating runs, Jaiswal stepped out against a Mitchell Santner delivery which was there to be hit. Santner, who excels in tinkering with the pace, did the same on this occasion as well.

However, to his surprise, Jaiswal adjusted exceedingly well to hit him over his head for a huge six. With left-handed batters expected to go all guns blazing against left-handed orthodox spinners, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jaiswal attempt more such shots post the lunch break.

Batting at individual strike rates of more than 100, Jaiswal and Shuman Gill powered India to an affirmative start at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium today.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Has Hit Most Test Sixes In 2024

Jaiswal, who hit another six in the first session, has now hit a total of 32 sixes in Test cricket this year. The 22-year old player is way ahead of Sri Lanka wicket-keeper batter Kusal Mendis (19), who is second on this list.

Only the second player after former England captain Joe Root to have scored in excess of 1,000 Test runs in 2024, Jaiswal is only behind his English counterpart Ben Duckett in terms of strike rate (min. 500 runs) in the format this year.
