Hosts Pakistan had their top-order rattled by Bangladesh pacers on a rain-marred opening day of the first Test of their two-match series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs BAN Day 1 panned out in Rawalpindi:

PAK vs BAN Day 1 Highlights: Shoriful Islam, Mahmud Strike Early For BAN

After a delayed start, Bangladesh’s new-ball fast bowling pair complimented their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s decision to win the toss and field first. Hasan Mahmud landed the opening blow for the visitors by removing Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique for just two.

Shoriful Islam also delivered the goods by removing Pakistan captain Shan Masood and senior man Babar Azam in just three deliveries as the hosts crashed to 16-3 at one stage earlier in the day.

Moreover, Babar was dismissed for a silver duck owing to some sensational wicketkeeping brilliance from Litton Das.

PAK vs BAN Day 1 Highlights: Young Ayub Leads PAK Recovery With Shakeel

Forming forces at 16-3 inside the opening hour of play, Pakistan opening batter Saim Ayub led his team’s counterattacking recovery with with number five batter Saud Shakeel. Both cricketers occupied themselves at the crease by seeing off the new ball and overcoming Bangladesh’s spin threat. Ayub and Shakeel even listed fighting half-centuries and took Pakistan past the 100-run mark without further casualties.

During his fifty, Shakeel crossed 1, 000 career Test runs and became the joint-quickest Pakistani batter to do so, along with former player Saeed Ahmed.

PAK vs BAN Day 1 Highlights: Hasan Mahmud Struck Late To Solidify Bangladesh’s Day

Young Saim Ayub, who flogged four boundaries and a six, eventually collapsed to a nothing shot against Hasan Mahmud as Pakistan slipped to 114-4. Following his dismissal, fellow half-centurion Saud Shakeel saw off the remaining overs of the day to reach 57*. Mohammad Rizwan also belted a couple of boundaries in his 24* and will resume Pakistan’s first-innings charge on Day 2 at 158-4 in 41 overs.
