It turned out to be a rather productive day for the home side, England, who dished out 181 runs on the first day without losing a wicket against the visiting Indian side. Chasing 371 for victory, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett started off brilliantly for England, putting Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling line-up in trouble.
Isa Guha Makes A Massive Claim On Jasprit Bumrah After Crawley's Treatment
After picking a five-wicket haul in the first innings, giving away just 83 runs, Jasprit Bumrah couldn't do much in the second as England raced to 181 in 40.5 overs in the second session of day five in the first Test at Headingley in Leeds, as the opening duo of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett played exceedingly well.
Chasing 371 for victory, England are now way ahead in the game, as they only require 190 runs to win in the final few hours before rain intervened.
While speaking to BBC Test Match Special, former English women's cricketer and current commentator Isa Guha made a sparking claim on Bumrah's bowling against England. Praising Zak Crawley for his incredible batting effort, Guha called Bumrah an 'average international bowler' and pointed out Crawley was making him look like he was not the best in the world.
"He's looking good out there Zak Crawley. He is making Bumrah look like an average international bowler out there, not the best in the world."
It is worth noting that Crawley, by the time of writing, was batting on 59* off 121 deliveries, whereas of those 59, 17 have come against Bumrah from 35 deliveries with two boundaries against the Indian star pacer. Bumrah, on the other hand, has dished out 13 overs so far in the second innings, giving away 43 runs without any success to his name.
Crawley's incredible control over his shots alongside his command over his defence has made many a fan of the English opener.
England Maintains Dominance In The Second Session
On the back of Ben Duckett's incredible 105* off 126 deliveries, England is racing towards the target, as they look comfortable against the Indian bowling attack. With support from Crawley, Duckett has managed to outclass every Indian bowler with his consistent batting so far.
What has helped England further are the dropped chances, with the recent one again coming from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dropped Duckett on 97. By the time of writing, England were 181 for no loss after 40.5 overs, as rain halted play in the second session on day five.
