Babar Azam batted beautifully against Nepal in Asia Cup 2023 opener (X.com)
Babar Azam was at his scintillating best on Wednesday (August 30) at Multan Cricket Stadium, where Pakistan and Nepal went up against each other to kick off the Asia Cup 2023. In a match where his dependable top-order teammates Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman miserably failed, the 28-year-old scored his 19th ODI century to save Pakistan from utter humiliation.
Opting to bat, Pakistan slipped to 25/2 against Nepal at home. Fakhar Zaman returned to the middle with a wild shot, and a brilliant run-out by Rohit Paudel led Imam-ul-Haq to leave the field.
Babar, the No. 1-ranked ODI batter in the world, and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the ship, stitching an important 86-run stand before two wickets in quick succession left Pakistan reeling at 124/4. Then Babar held the fort alongside Iftikhar Ahmed, gracefully crossing the three-digit mark in the process.
