The first T20I of the four-match series between England and New Zealand, two of the most impressive teams in recent years, will be played on August 30 at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. The 2019 ODI World Cup finalists will go up against each other eight times in 17 days, with the tour ending with a four-match ODI series.

ENG vs NZ, 1st T20I: Match Preview

England

England will have Jos Buttler at the helm, with Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, and Harry Brook among the many stars to take the field. However, the ultimate focus will be on Gus Atkinson, who made headlines by performing magnificently in the recently concluded Men’s Hundred.

It will be interesting to see what England’s bowling attack will be like. They recalled Chris Jordan to replace the injured Josh Tongue, and the veteran should be an automatic choice alongside Adil Rashid, who is the most experienced in the unit.

Atkinson will probably get his chance in the first game of the series, with Curran, Moeen, Livingstone, and Luke Wood being the other likely bowling options.

New Zealand

With Kane Williamson injured, Tim Southee will take charge of New Zealand. The likes of Devon Conway and Will Young are the Kiwis' most reliable batsmen, and the fireworks from Finn Allen could turn things around in split seconds.

New Zealand might give a shot to Tim Seifert at No. 3, who recently hit a quickfire 30 against Worcestershire in the warm-up game. Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Mitchell Santner are likely to make up the middle order, while Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, and Adam Milne should get the first go to assemble a potent bowling attack.

It is important to mention that England and New Zealand are Nos. 2 and 3-ranked sides in the latest ICC T20I rankings.
