There is no need for ardent cricket fans to wait any longer, as Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium is set to host the curtain raiser of the ODI World Cup on Thursday (October 5). To kick off the proceedings, England and New Zealand -- last edition’s finalists -- will face each other in a contest that is thought to be a blockbuster opener for spectators.

Runs galore and sixes raining down in Ahmebadad during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 a few months ago made the spectators ecstatic. While bowlers desired to bowl defensively in order to maintain their economy rate throughout the competition, the playing surface appeared to be a paradise for batsmen.

How will the pitch behave this time? Will we witness the similar IPL approach by either side when they take on each other on October 5?

We will get to know soon. Until then, let's take a look at how Ahmedabad pitch is typically prepared.

Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad Pitch Report

The Narendra Modi Stadium has up to six black soil pitches and five red soil pitches; while red soil surfaces benefit seam bowlers more than black soil pitches, black soil pitches are preferable for hit-the-deck specialists because they can produce good bounce.

While the early overs may be difficult, batsmen tend to get support from the Ahmedabad surfaces. More significantly, as all the fixtures will be day-night affairs at Narendra Modi Stadium, the dew factor, in all likelihood, will play a crucial role in these fixtures.

Keep a close eye on Lockie Ferguson, who used to play for Gujarat Titans, and has a fair bit of idea about these conditions.
