The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium buzzed with confusion as Australian duo, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Hazlewood, were absent from today's warm-up clash against Pakistan.

Here's why Marcus Stoinis and Josh Hazlewood are not playing today

Given that teams can utilise their full squad in these preparatory games, their absence was both intriguing and unexpected.

However, the mystery behind their absence has been unravelled. The Australian think-tank led by Pat Cummins, took a tactical call to align with international match norms, choosing to play only XI players in this crucial warm-up tie.

While this might be seen as a deviation from the norm, the strategic intent behind it seems clear: to simulate match-day conditions as closely as possible and to prepare the players for the intense competition ahead.

The decision to exclude Stoinis and Hazlewood appears to be a move to ensure the duo remains in perfect condition for Australia's much-anticipated opening World Cup fixture against arch-rivals India in Chennai on October 8.

With the imperative to manage player workloads and the looming threat of injuries in such a high-octane tournament, this could be a shrewd move by the Australian management.

Earlier today, Australia opted to bat first after winning the toss. They were motivated to get in a good batting practice, especially after their rain-marred encounter against the Netherlands which saw a reduced 23-over game before it was eventually called off.
