Rajshahi Warriors produced a clinical chase to defeat Rangpur Riders by seven wickets in the 21st match of the BPL 2025-26 season at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

After being set a target of 179, Rajshahi crossed the line with nine balls to spare, thanks to outstanding knocks from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Muhammad Waseem.

Hridoy shines, Khushdil provides late push for Rangpur

Rangpur Riders were put in to bat and got off to a shaky start as Kyle Mayers was dismissed early for 8. Litton Das struggled to find timing and fell for 11, while there was little success for Iftikhar Ahmad, who only managed to score 8.

At 72/3 in the 12th over, Rangpur looked in danger of wasting the platform. Towhid Hridoy, however, held the innings together brilliantly.

He played with maturity and confidence. Hridoy found a perfect partner in Khushdil Shah, who brought some momentum with her aggressive approach.

The duo went on to add an important 105-run partnership that set the tone of the innings completely. Khushdil smashed 44 off 29 balls, including four fours and three sixes, before falling in the penultimate over.

Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on a superb 97 off 56 deliveries, narrowly missing out on a century. Rangpur finished with a strong 178/4, a total that looked competitive on a good batting surface.

Shanto-Waseem partnership seals comfortable chase for Rajshahi

Rajshahi’s reply started poorly as Tanzid Hasan was trapped lbw for 3 off 7 balls. But that early setback only brought together the two players who would define the chase.

Najmul Shanto and Muhammad Waseem put on a massive 142-run partnership that broke the back of Rangpur’s bowling attack.

Shanto batted with intent right from the start. He played his shots well and made use of the crease and the shorter boundaries.

His 76 off 42 balls included six fours and four sixes, and he never allowed the required rate to climb. At the other end, Waseem played the perfect supporting role before gradually taking charge himself.

The pair punished anything loose and ran sharply between the wickets. By the time Shanto was dismissed in the 16th over with the score on 155, the match was all but over.

James Neesham fell cheaply, but there was no late drama as Waseem and Ryan Burl calmly guided Rajshahi home.

Muhammad Waseem finished unbeaten on 87 from 59 balls. Burl chipped in with 7 off 5 to complete the chase in 19.1 overs.

With this win, Rajshahi Warriors continued their strong run in the tournament to climb to second spot in the points table. Shanto was named player of the match for his 76-run knock.
