Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman etched his name into the record books during the Asia Cup Super Fours clash against India, becoming only the fourth player in history to reach 150 T20I wickets. The milestone was achieved in Dubai on Wednesday when the left-arm quick dismissed Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav during his spell of 1/33.
The landmark wicket saw Mustafizur Rahman surpass his compatriot Shakib Al Hasan (149 wickets) to become Bangladesh's leading wicket-taker in the shortest format. The 30-year-old now sits joint-third on the all-time list alongside New Zealand's Ish Sodhi.
Mustafizur enters the history books
Player | Matches | Wickets | Economy Rate | Average | Best Figures |
Rashid Khan | 103 | 173 | 6.12 | 13.93 | 5/3 |
Tim Southee | 126 | 164 | 8 | 22.38 | 5/18 |
Mustafizur Rahman | 118 | 150 | 7.3 | 20.65 | 6/10 |
Ish Sodhi | 126 | 150 | 7.95 | 22.52 | 4/12 |
Shakib Al Hasan | 129 | 149 | 6.81 | 20.91 | 5/20 |
Mustafizur's career figures of 150 wickets in 118 matches at an average of 20.65 cement his status as one of T20's greats. His record of 6/10 against the United States in 2024 remains the best figures by a pace bowler in T20I history.
Mustafizur's 150th victim was a crucial one. The dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav came from a short delivery down the leg side that brushed the bat, with wicketkeeper Jaker Ali taking a sharp catch diving to his left.
India's innings powered by Abhishek's blitz
Despite the early loss of their captain via Fizz, India posted a competitive total of 168/6, largely due to a spectacular innings from opener Abhishek Sharma. After a slow start, India accelerated to reach 72/0 in the powerplay, their highest in the tournament.
Abhishek smashed his way to a 37-ball 75, his second fifty of the competition. Bangladesh in reply failed to answer with grit as they lost 4 wickets inside 11 overs and eventually tumbled and were wrapped up within 127 runs.
