The West Indies tour is becoming increasingly rewarding for budding fast bowler Mukesh Kumar. Following his Test and ODI debuts in the ongoing series, Mukesh added another feather to his cap on Thursday, July 3, when he received the opportunity to make his T20I debut in the ongoing first T20I match against West Indies in Trinidad.

Mukesh's achievement marks him as the second Indian cricketer after T Natarajan to achieve an international debut across all three formats in a single tour. Natarajan had achieved this distinction during the Australian tour, a period marked by increasing injury woes.

Mukesh made a resounding impact in his Test and ODI debuts against West Indies, respectively held in Port of Spain and Bridgetown. The budding pacer's dream run in the West Indies saw him making his Test debut on July 20. He garnered praise for his precision in line and length, securing 2 wickets in the match. His journey continued with his ODI debut on July 27, where he showcased his talent in all three matches of the series, clinching 4 wickets. Among his notable feats was an exceptional bowling performance of 3/30 in the series-deciding game.

His impressive showings in both the Test and ODI series positioned him well for inclusion in India’s playing XI for the ongoing first T20I against West Indies.

The T20 series opener also introduced another debutant for India, as the dynamic Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma earned his cap in international cricket. Varma, who has displayed remarkable prowess in recent IPL seasons, earned a maiden India call-up for the West Indies series.

In the match context, West Indies captain Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bat, fielding a lineup that included T20 specialists like Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran, and Obed McCoy.

Mukesh's journey is further enriched by his impressive domestic cricket record in both first-class and List-A formats. His maiden IPL season with the Delhi Capitals also showed promise, and he now aims to make a significant impact in the shortest format, following his impressive displays in Test and ODI matches.
