West Indies' batter, Nicholas Pooran got off to a blistering start in the first T20I against India at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba after the hosts won the toss and opted to bat first.

Fearless Pooran takes apart Indian spinners

After a rather slow start, with the loss of both openers to Yuzvendra Chahal's magical spin in the fifth over, the West Indies were in dire need of stability. Enter Pooran, whose reputation for fearless cricket preceded him.

With a confident stride to the crease, Pooran immediately announced his presence. The first ball he faced was lofted with grace and power wide to mid-off for a boundary, leaving no doubt about his intent. He followed up with a stunning sweep over long-on for a six that brought the stadium to its feet.

Chahal, normally dependable, seemed to lose his rhythm against Pooran's onslaught, tossing up deliveries that the West Indies star gleefully dispatched.

The carnage continued in the following over against Axar Patel, as Pooran smashed a six and a boundary off consecutive balls, helping West Indies reach 54/2 at the end of the powerplay.

The southpaw's batting was more than mere aggression; it was an exhibition of calculated risk and exquisite timing. His 33 off 21 balls by the end of the 10th over alongside Rovman Powell, stabilized the West Indies at 69/3, transforming a shaky start into a platform for a competitive total.

The match now hangs in the balance, with the experienced duo of Pooran and Powell expected to navigate the innings towards a massive total. On the other hand, India will be looking to strike again and halt the momentum that Pooran has managed to build.
