Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan expressed his dissatisfaction with his 77-run knock in the third and final ODI of the three-match series. The dynamic left-handed batter believed he had the potential to remain at the crease and achieve a more substantial score.

Ishan's remarkable performance in the top-order was a standout feature of the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies. His consistent batting earned him the well-deserved 'Player of the Series' accolade for scoring most runs in the series, aligning with India's dominant display that culminated in a convincing 200-run victory in the series-clinching final ODI, resulting in a 2-1 series triumph.

In the crucial series-deciding match, Kishan smashed his third consecutive half-century in the ODI series. Teaming up with Shubman Gill, their opening partnership yielded an impressive 143 runs. The 25-year-old scored an impressive 77-run knock from 64 balls, featuring three sixes and eight fours. His innings laid the foundation for India's authoritative batting performance.

Kishan secured his third consecutive half-century in the series, a rare accomplishment among Indian players in a bilateral three-game ODI series. In the opening ODI, despite fellow batsmen encountering difficulties, the assertive left-hander demonstrated his prowess with a crucial 52-run contribution. His strong performance persisted with another significant knock of 55 runs during the second ODI, despite India's loss in that match.

Reflecting on his performance, Kishan commented,

"Not so happy with the finishing that I gave. I was supposed to score big after being set. That’s what my seniors told me, I should’ve stayed in and scored big. That’s what I’ll try next time, I’ll get set in the middle and score big. It’s important at this level to get set. It’s important to forget the last game and start from 0. I was thinking of taking it one ball at a time.”

Amid a series marked by varied team combinations and experiments, Ishan was entrusted with all three matches, and he admirably delivered. Through his remarkable performances in the ODI series, Kishan has presented a strong argument, catching the attention of selectors. This becomes particularly relevant as India approaches two significant tournaments: Asia Cup 2023 and the 50-over World Cup.
