Former administrative manager of the Indian cricket team during the T20 World Cup 2007, Sunil Dev, passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 75 after battling a prolonged illness.

He played a significant role as the team manager which saw him accompany Team India on numerous overseas tours, but his most notable achievement was being part of the management during the historic victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Throughout his association with cricket, Dev was closely linked with the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) from the late 70s until 2015. His contributions extended to various sub-committees within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during his tenure as a sports administrator.

Sunil's most prominent moment came when he assumed the role of administrative manager for the Indian team that clinched the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. He also held similar managerial positions during India's tours of South Africa in 1996 and England in 2014.

Beyond his administrative responsibilities, Sunil engaged cricket enthusiasts through a radio show, where he shared captivating cricket tales. Notably, he recounted a story of a young 17-year-old Virat Kohli learning to drive in his SUV.

While his professional cricketing career saw a solitary First-Class match for Delhi, Dev made his mark by scoring 42 runs as a wicketkeeper-batter. He even managed to take a catch during that game.

Sunil's legacy will be remembered not only for his administrative contributions but also for his engaging stories that added an interesting dimension to Indian cricket.
