Team India, under Hardik Pandya’s guidance, took field at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy for the first T20I of their five-match series against West Indies.
Prior to the contest, skipper Pandya was seen getting teary-eyed during the national anthem ceremony. The star all-rounder got emotional during the proceedings, and the cricketer’s moment of patriotism soon went viral across social media.

Hardik Pandya is leading the white-ball segment of India’s tour of West Indies in the absence of senior pros Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. For starters, the dashing all-rounder led the ‘Men in Blue’ to an emphatic 200-run win in the third ODI to seal the series 2-1, and is now continuing his duty in the ensuing T20I matches.
Prior to the opening T20I in Trinidad, Pandya was seen getting teary-eyed at a time when Indian national anthem was played out inside the stadium.
In the meantime, West Indies captain Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bat first.
Team India is fielding two debutants in the game, in the form of Mumbai Indians batting prodigy Tilak Varma and tour’s breakout star Mukesh Kumar.
At the time of publishing, West Indies reached 40-2 in five overs with number four Nicholas Pooran and wicketkeeper Johnson Charles still batting at the crease.
