In the sixth match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024, between the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars played at Adelaide Oval today (December 20, 2024).
Glenn Maxwell, playing for Melbourne Stars, played a quickfire cameo as he smashed 15 runs in 5 balls. In his innings, he struck two monstrous sixes, and with this, Glenn Maxwell became the second-most six-hitter in BBL history.
He surpassed Ben McDermott’s tally of 123 maximums. He currently stands with 125 sixes, only behind the Chris Lynn, who leads the list with 208 sixes.

But Glenn Maxwell could not continue much and innings came to an end when he was dismissed by Henry Thornton in the 7th over of the second innings. Thornton delivered a full-length ball on the stumps, and Maxwell aimed for a big swing but missed.
The ball struck him right in front of middle-stump, and after this umpire raised raise his finger and this was the end of Maxwell's innings.
Adelaide Strikers Remarkable Performance
Earlier in the match, Melbourne Stars won the toss and invited Adelaide Strikers to bat first. The Strikers, however, were in early trouble as their top order struggled to get going against the the Stars’ bowlers. Opening batsmen Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald could not contribute much and thanks to some disciplined bowling by Adam Milne and Glenn Maxwell.
However, the Strikers found some stability through D’Arcy Short, who played a much-needed knock of 60 runs off 42 balls. Short’s played from the front and ensured that the team posted a competitive total. Alex Ross supported him well, and contributed 35 runs off 22 balls.
At the time of writing this article, MLS need MLS need 60 runs in 35 balls with Sam Harper and Tom Curran at the crease.
