RCB captain Smriti Mandhana landed at the top of the list for most catches in WPL history owing to her safe hands. She pulled off two sharp catches during the match against UP Warriorz in the fifth fixture of the 2026 season.

Her efforts in the field were a key moment in RCB’s strong bowling performance as they restricted UP to a below-par total.

Smriti Mandhana equals the record of most WPL catches

With her catch to dismiss Phoebe Litchfield, Smriti Mandhana moved to 17 catches in the WPL, drawing level with Delhi Capitals’ Jemimah Rodrigues at the top of the list.

Mandhana’s catch came off the bowling of Shreyanka Patil, who was enjoying a dream spell. Litchfield tried to pull a slightly short ball but mistimed it, and Mandhana reacted quickly at mid-on to complete a clean catch.

The ball was traveling very quickly, but the RCB captain had judged it exactly and held onto it.

Smriti Mandhana’s fielding has always been a strong part of her game, and this record further proves her impact beyond batting.

Most Catches as a Fielder in WPL:

  • 17* - Smriti Mandhana (RCB), Jemimah Rodrigues (DC)
  • 15 - Amelia Kerr (MI)
  • 13 - Georgia Wareham (GG/RCB), Radha Yadav (DC/RCB)

In a tournament where margins are tight, safe hands in the field can make a big difference. She is now equal at the top position with Jemimah Rodrigues, and ahead of stars like Amelia Kerr, Georgia Wareham and Radha Yadav.

UP Warriorz recover strongly after early collapse

Meanwhile, UP Warriorz had a tough start to their innings after being asked to bat first. They lost wickets quickly and were struggling at 50/5, with both Meg Lanning and Harleen Deol back in the pavilion.

Shreyanka Patil was exemplary in the middle overs, taking two crucial wickets in one over, which included the big ones of Lanning and Litchfield, to put RCB in a dominant position.

However, the Warriorz showed plenty of spirit in terms of Deandra Dottin and Deepti Sharma. The pair put together an unbeaten 93-run partnership for the sixth wicket, completely changing the momentum.

Dottin played with power and control to finish on 40* from 37 balls, while Deepti scored 45* from 35 balls.

Their combined effort allowed UP Warriorz to post a good total of 143/5 in 20 overs, which was unlikely at one stage.

For RCB, Lauren Bell was excellent with the new ball, while Nadine de Klerk chipped in with two wickets. Despite Shreyanka Patil being a little expensive at the death, her two key breakthroughs earlier in the innings proved crucial.
