On Tuesday, April 8, KKR locked horns against LSG in the first-match of a double header Tuesday at the Eden Gardens. The hosts won the toss and opted to field first. The decision backfired as LSG got off to a dream start. 

Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram opened together and they stitched a 99-runs stand for the first wicket to stun KKR. The duo also scripted history with the stand as they entered the elite list of top-five opening partnerships for LSG.

Notably, it was the joint-fourth highest opening stand for LSG in their IPL history as Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul too stitched a 99-runs stand in 2022. Further, Quinton de Kock & KL Rahul holds the record for highest-opening stand in LSG's history when they stitched an unbeaten 210 runs stand for the first wicket against KKR in 2022.
