Harshit Rana gesture [Source: AP Photo]
In the last IPL season, Harshit Rana was in limelight but for all the wrong reasons. While he performed exceptionally well with the ball, the pacer made some unnecessary gesture which resulted in hefty fine for the KKR bowler. He made the flying-kiss celebration famous and it breached the IPL Code Of Conduct.
This season, he has been a bit underwhelmed, but against the Lucknow Super Giants, Harshit was at his aggressive best as after dismissing the dangerous Aiden Markram, the fast bowler gave a fiery send-off which could lead to hefty fine.
Will Harshit Rana be fined by IPL?
After dismissing Aiden Markram with a brilliant off-cutter, a frustrated Harshit pointed towards the pavilion, seemingly telling the LSG batter where to go after getting knocked out. Even though this is not a serious offence, but it comes under breaching IPL Code Of Conduct.
As per article 2.5 of the IPL Code Of Conduct, using language, gesture which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player is deemed offensive.
- It includes excessive celebration directed at and in close proximity to the dismissed batter.
- Verbally abusing a dismissed batter
- Pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion.
It is similar to what LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi experienced when the bowler did the notebook celebration and was fined by the IPL very next day.
LSG dominating KKR bowlers
KKR opted to bowl first and this turned out to be the mistake for Ajinkya Rahane as the LSG openers, Aiden Markram and Mitch Marsh added 99 runs for the first wicket.
The duo tore apart the KKR bowlers who looked toothless against the formidable opening duo. At the moment, the Lucknow franchise is 138/1 inside 13 overs with Mitch Marsh etching closer to his century.
