Veteran Indian batter KL Rahul was spotted with Delhi Capitals' co-owner and JSW Sports founder, Parth Jindal, sparking retention and captaincy buzz ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season. KL Rahul, who switched from Lucknow Super Giants before the IPL 2025, enjoyed stellar success in his maiden stint with the Capitals.

KL Rahul's Meeting With Parth Jindal Creates IPL Captaincy Buzz

KL Rahul, who represented the Lucknow Super Giants from 2022 to 2024, shifted his base to Delhi Capitals after the franchise secured his services for INR 14 Crores in the mega auction last year. The move worked wonders for the Capitals franchise, as Rahul emerged as their wrecker-in-chief with the bat, scoring 539 runs at an average of 53.90 and a blistering strike rate of 149.72.

Considering Rahul performed admirably for them, it's expected that the Delhi Capitals will retain him for the next season. Meanwhile, Rahul's latest outing with Parth Jindal added fuel to the fire, with fans assuming the star batter's retention ahead of the mini auction.

Additionally, several fans also speculated that Delhi Capitals might hand over the captaincy duties to KL Rahul, considering his success as a proven leader for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

Here are some of the best reactions:

"Captaincy milegi, DC squad confirmed"

"Future Captain!"

"Captain done for 2026"

Why Could DC Replace Axar Patel With KL Rahul As IPL Captain?

It's worth mentioning that Axar Patel had a topsy-turvy IPL season as DC captain, with the franchise finishing fifth in the ten-team points table. Despite winning five of their first eight matches, Delhi failed to enter the playoffs, as Axar received massive backlash for his tactical shortcomings.

In such a scenario, fans and experts are speculating if Rahul's meeting with Jindal is a hint at the potential move to replace Axar with the opening batter as the DC captain for the IPL 2026. It will certainly be a bold move if the Capitals revamp their leadership and consider utilising Rahul's experience and expertise as a captain in the upcoming season.
