Waqar Younis Ends His Term As PCB Chief Advisor Amid Bangladesh's Historic Win Over Pakistan

Pakistan cricket is at the centre of criticism after the Shan Masood-led side suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh at home.

On Day 5 of the first Test, Pakistan tumbled for just 146 runs as they failed to read spin. In reply, Bangladesh, who required just 30 runs to win chased down the target with 10 wickets in hand. It was The Tigers' first win over Pakistan in Test cricket.

In the latest events, Sportstak reported that Waqar Younis, who was recently appointed as PCB's chief advisor, stepped down from his role just three weeks after his appointment.

However, it must be clear that the result of today's game did not influence Waqar's decision as he had himself requested the board to first appoint him for three weeks.

“Waqar was not comfortable and apparently some influential people in the board, linked to the Pakistan team affairs and international cricket matters, were also not very cooperative with him,” wrote Sportstak.

It is unclear whether Younis has reapplied for the position, but the PCB has invited applicants for the vacant position.

“The board has also advertised the post of advisor on cricket affairs and now candidates who have applied would be interviewed. Waqar has not responded to the ad,” the source added.

Wasim Akram Too Was Approached For This Role

Before Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram was approached for this role, but he declined the offer because he could not relocate.
