Day 2 of the third and final Test between England and West Indies is underway at the Edgbaston Stadium. The hosts are struggling in the dead-rubber game, as they have lost five wickets for less than 100 runs on the board.

Meanwhile, Joe Root, who scored a century in the last game, scripted another feat in the ongoing match as he went past Brian Lara to become the seventh-leading run-getter in Test cricket.

Ahead of the start of day 2, Root required 13 runs to go past Lara and at the time of writing this article, he is batting on 26 (30). Notably, Root has 11965 runs and counting, while Lara had 11953 runs in 131 matches.

Root has taken 12 more matches than Lara to go past the West Indies veteran. Meanwhile, Root has closed the gap on reaching the milestone set by Sachin Tendulkar of 15921 runs in Test cricket.

The former England captain is now eyeing to enter the 12,000 runs club and only Kumar Sangakkara, Alastair Cook, Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, and Tendulkar have more runs than him.

Talking about the ongoing series, then England have already sealed the series with two wins in the first two games.
