Indian paceman Jasprit Bumrah achieved a major landmark against England courtesy of his triple-strike on Day 2 of the Vizag Test match. He has now tallied 50 wickets in all Tests against England, thus accounting for more than a third of his overall collection in the format.

Bumrah removed Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow within the course of a single spell on a flat Vizag surface to reach the milestone figure in just 12 matches.

Jasprit Bumrah joins elite Indian club for ENG Tests

Jasprit Bumrah made his Test debut in January 2018 with a match against South Africa at Cape Town. A few months later in the same year, the cricketer went up against England at the latter’s home ground for the first time in his career.

So far in his 34-match Test journey, Bumrah has faced England 12 times across both home and away conditions combined. In just 21 innings, the ace speedster has claimed 50 English wickets to become only the ninth Indian cricketer in history to get to the landmark figure.

Previously, Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, Bishen Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Ishant Sharma, Vinoo Mankad and Bumrah’s current teammates Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the only other Indian cricketers to have tallied either 50 or more wickets in their profile against the Test giants.

Interestingly, Bumrah’s haul against England amounted to more than a third of his overall Test collection of 149 wickets at the time.

Regardless, the speedster’s triple-strike on Day 2 of the Vizag Test triggered a colossal English middle-order collapse in their pursuit of India’s 396-run first innings total. Dismissing Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow in the space of an hour, the visitors reduced from 114-1 to 182-7 shortly after the Tea break.
