Namibia blanked Zimbabwe to claim a consolation win in the third T20I match in Bulawayo. Belligerent opening batter Jan Frylinck rained down a record half-century to fall just short of Yuvraj Singh’s 18-year-old record as Namibia blazed past the 200-run mark batting first.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the third T20I of the three-match series between Zimbabwe and Namibia, as it panned out at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Thursday, September 18.
Jan Frylinck Blasts 77 Off 31 As Namibia Mounts 204
Namibia raced to 74-0 inside the first five overs, with opening batter Louren Steenkamp making just 14 off those runs at run-a-ball before falling to Tinotenda Maposa (1-39). Steenkamp’s partner Jan Frylinck, however, smeared a record 13-ball half-century, unleashing 77 runs off 31 balls in all with eight boundaries and six huge sixes.
Sikandar Raza tilted the tide back in Zimbabwe’s favour amid Namibia’s batting carnage with three quick wickets, including that half-centurion Frylinck to claim tight figures of 3-25. While Wellington Masakadza (1-28) and Blessing Muzarabani (1-48) also chipped in with a wicket each, a fiery 46-run cameo from Ruben Trumpelmann and a 11-ball 20* from Alexander Busing-Volschenk pushed Namibia to 204-7 in 20 overs.
JJ Smit’s Fantastic ‘Four’ Too Much Heat For Sean Williams
In pursuit of 205, Zimbabwe lost four wickets inside the powerplay itself at the time of reaching 44. Gerhard Erasmus and Bernard Scholtz (1-6) both picked up a wicket each, while JJ Smit struck twice early in the innings. Zimbabwe’s number four Sean Williams kept his side in the hunt with a fighting 77 off 45 balls with 10 boundaries and two huge sixes.
However, two late wickets for Ruben Trumpelmann (2-39) and a four-wicket haul from Smit (4-29) kept Zimbabwe down to 176 in 19.5 overs as Namibia claimed a convincing 28-run win to avoid a series whitewash.
