Team India openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal motored along in their run-chase at Ranchi in their aim of overhauling their 192-run target. Resuming the innings on Day 4 at 40-0, the two cricketers pounded runs at a brisk pace and shared an 84-run stand together at the top of the order.

Amidst their run-scoring juggernaut, captain Sharma also flicked seasoned English speedster James Anderson for a huge six to signal a confident Indian start to the day. A couple of overs later, the opening batter survived a near-runout scare after partner Yashasvi pushed him for a single during the 13th over of the innings.

After the opportunity went begging, Anderson engaged in a brief verbal duel with the Indian captain.

Anderson duels with Sharma after runout opportunity

In the fifth over of Day 4 and the 13th over of the second Indian innings overall, James Anderson managed to beat Rohit Sharma’s attempted flick by getting an inside edge. With no short leg in place, Yashasvi Jaiswal from the non-striker’s end took off for a single.

While captain Sharma initially refused the call, he hesitantly agreed considering Yashasvi was already halfway down the pitch. With three English fielders converging, the Indian opener had to rush his way to safety and survive a near-runout opportunity.

However, just as Rohit Sharma reached the non-strikers end, he was greeted with a few words from James Anderson. The Indian opener also responded back as the two cricketers tried to get inside each other’s skins during the decisive innings of the match.

Sharma was eventually dismissed by English spinner Tom Hartley after he listed a fluent 55 from 81 balls. Anderson, meanwhile, went wicketless in his opening spell of the day.
