India captain Suryakumar Yadav demoted himself down to number 11 against Oman in the final Group match of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi. The senior Indian cricketer, who batted at number three against UAE and Pakistan in his team’s previous two matches of the tournament, remained at the dugout throughout the innings against Oman.

Suryakumar started off by promoting wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson at number three, and even sent the likes of specialist bowlers like Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav above him during the slog overs.

Fans React As Suryakumar Yadav Pulls Off An ‘MS Dhoni’

After unknowingly pulling off a ‘Rohit Sharma’ at the toss prior to the game by forgetting India’s playing changes, ‘Men in Blue’ skipper Suryakumar Yadav pulled off an MS Dhoni during the match against Oman.

Much like Dhoni, who has demoted himself in the batting order on a couple of occasions in IPL cricket for the CSK franchise, Suryakumar also kept relegating himself down the order even though Team India lost wickets at regular intervals in Abu Dhabi. The Indian captain placed himself at number 11, i.e., below the likes of even Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav as all other players got a much-needed crack with the bat before the Super Four stage of the tournament.

Nonetheless, Suryakumar Yadav’s decision prompted many Indian cricket fans to troll the star batter. While some compared him with MS Dhoni, others expressed their shock over India’s bizarre batting order. Here is a look at some of the fans expressing themselves on X:

Is Suryakumar Yadav’s Demotion An Insult Towards Oman?

A particular section of Indian cricket fans even argued if Suryakumar Yadav unknowingly “insulted” the Oman cricket team by demoting himself.

Without the services of captain Suryakumar Yadav with the bat, Team India still mounted 188-8 from 20 overs. Sanju Samson at number three top-scored in the innings with a sublime 56 while Axar Patel and Tilak Varma clubbed swift 20s. Abhishek Sharma also bludgeoned 38 off just 15 balls at the top of the order.
