Pakistan decided not to boycott the Asia Cup 2025 tournament, but it seems more controversy is set to follow as their cricket board is mulling filing an official complaint against Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for his post-match remarks in support of the Pahalgam victim, and this adds a fresh twist to the handshake saga.

The drama on September 14 might have ended, but PCB is considering escalating the matter, as they feel Suryakumar mixed politics with cricket, especially when the two fields should be kept separated.

What Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-game presentation?

As per a report by NDTV Sports, Pakistan is upset with SKY’s comments on him showing solidarity with the Pahalgam terror attack victims, and the way he politicized the win by dedicating the victory to the Indian armed forces.

"I just wanted to say something. I think it is a perfect occasion to take the time out. We stand by with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and we express our solidarity. Most important thing for me, we want to dedicate this win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all and we give them more reasons on the ground when we get an opportunity to make them smile," SKY said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given the PCB until Sunday to file an official complaint, should they choose to proceed.

Pakistan threatened to boycott the event

Suryakumar’s no-handshake gesture infuriated Pakistan as they filed an official complaint to the ICC against match referee Andy Pycroft for not maintaining the code of conduct. However, the ICC rejected the plea, which further damaged PCB’s reputation. As a last-ditch effort, the board decided to boycott the remainder of the Asia Cup, but at the last moment, they took a U-turn and decided to continue playing.
