On Sunday, May 18, Rajasthan Royals hosted Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium for IPL 2025 match 59. Ahead of the start of the match, the league paid a heartfelt tribute to Indian armed forces as all the players and the fans in the stands stood up for the national anthem.
Notably, it was an emotional moment in the Pink City as all the players paid homage to the Indian armed forces, who executed a brilliant task by eliminating the terrorists across the border during the recent cross-border tensions.
"Grateful to the Armed Forces. Jai Hind," wrote IPL on their twitter handle.
Shreyas Iyer Hails Indian Armed Forces During Toss vs RR
Even during the toss, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer hailed the Indian armed forces, where he thanked the personnels for their work which made the resumption of IPL possible.
"Special thanks to the Indian Armed Forces. We're here safe and playing because of them," remarked Shreyas Iyer.
It is worth noting that the IPL was suspended on May 8 due to security issues. Because of the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the IPL governing body decided to suspend the league for a week. However, timely actions by the armed forces and the ceasefire between two countries, the governing body resumed the league as soon as possible.
However, due to the league getting pushed by more than a week, several overseas stars pulled out of the league and couldn't return to India which led to the BCCI allowing temporary replacements.
