RR vs LSG: Team Previews

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals wrapped up IPL 2023 in fifth place, balancing out with seven wins and as many losses. They missed the playoffs by a whisker, being edged out by five-time champions, Mumbai Indians.

But they made some wise moves before the auction, keeping their core intact and adding five fresh talents: Rovman Powell, Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Abid Mushtaq and Nandre Burger.

It seems like Powell has a good chance to crack into the Rajasthan Royals starting lineup among these players. Plus, they will probably stick to a similar playing XI from the last season, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler as their openers, captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag in the middle order, and Shimron Hetmyer as their prime finisher.

Losing Prasidh Krishna to injury dealt a blow to their pace attack. So, it will be intriguing to watch Avesh Khan step up in this match. Nonetheless, Trent Boult will spearhead the attack, with Ashwin and Chahal taking charge of the Royals' spin department.

Lucknow Super Giants

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants clinched a playoff spot last season, marking their second consecutive appearance in the playoffs. Unfortunately, their title dream was shattered in the eliminator, where they incurred a heartbreaking defeat against Mumbai Indians.

KL Rahul resumes his captaincy for Lucknow Super Giants, but with a twist this time. He's taking on a new role in the middle order, relinquishing wicket-keeping duties as per medical advice. This shift aims to boost his chances for selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

To bolster their batting lineup, they have acquired Devdutt Padikkal from Rajasthan Royals in a player swap. He's slated to open for the Super Giants, who are expected to maintain last year's winning formula with the addition of pace bowler Shivam Mavi.
