The twelfth match of the IPL 2023 saw Chennai Super Kings crush arch-rivals Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in a one-sided affair in Mumbai. MS Dhoni-led CSK gained two crucial points with this astounding victory.

After being put into bat first, Mumbai Indians got off to a fabulous start, with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adding 38 runs in just 4 overs for the first wicket. However, Tushar Deshpande brought CSK back into the game, cleaning up Sharma with a peach.

After the skipper's departure, MI lost the plot, losing wickets at regular intervals. CSK's spin twin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner wreaked havoc in the hosts' camp, dismantling their middle order.

However, priceless cameos from Tim David and Hrithik Shokeen saved MI from embarrassment, powering them to 157 in 20 overs. While David struck two sixes for his 22-ball 31, Shokeen contributed 18 runs.

Jadeja was CSK's wrecker-in-chief with the ball, scalping three wickets for just 20 runs in his four-over spell, while Deshpande and Santner claimed two wickets each.

Rahane's whirlwind knock seizes the day for CSK

In response, CSK got a poor start, as Jason Behrendorff dismissed the in-form Devon Conway for a four-ball duck in the first over. However, two Maharashtra boys, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane, stitched a match-winning stand of 82 runs for the second wicket.

While Gaikwad adopted a cautious approach for his 36-ball 40*, Rahane played the aggressor's role to perfection. His 61-run knock, glittered with seven fours and three sixes, set the platform, helping CSK ace the chase with 11 balls to spare.

Among others, Shivam Dube contributed 28 runs, while Ambati Rayudu remained unbeaten on 20.
