Nothing seems to be going right for Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam these days. Left out of the Asia Cup squad, he is struggling for consistency with the bat, and even in friendly matches, runs are not coming easily. His last appearance in a flood relief exhibition match in Peshawar was another tricky day.
The match, that took place at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium between Legends XI and Peshawar Zalmis, commenced with Yasir Hameed and Babar opening the innings. Both batsmen started aggressively, entertaining the crowd with quick boundaries.
Babar Azam Fails Against 55-Year-Old Inzamam-Ul-Haq
While Babar Azam looked in good rhythm and even smashed a towering six off Sajeed Ajmal, the veteran off-spinner had the last laugh, bowling Babar with a clever delivery. Before his dismissal, Babar had scored 43 runs off 23 balls.
In stark contrast, 55-year-old Inzamam-Ul-Haq outshone Babar. Chasing 145, Legends XI gave a strong fight thanks to a vintage knock from Inzamam.
The former Pakistan skipper rolled back the years with a stormy 46 not out off just 23 balls, keeping his side in the hunt till the very end. He found good support from Mahmood, who smashed 34 off 14 balls.
However, Zalmi’s bowlers held their nerves in the final overs. Muhammad Irfan and Babar Azam chipped in with two wickets each, while Salman and Zulfiqar Babar took one apiece. Legends XI could only reach 138/6 in 15 overs, falling short by just six runs.
For fans, the highlight of the night was the battle between Babar and Ajmal. Even at 47, Ajmal proved his magic still works, dismissing Pakistan’s most dependable modern-day batter. Meanwhile, Inzamam’s explosive innings reminded spectators of his glory days.
