Pakistan beat the UAE by 31 runs in the second match of the ongoing tri-series. However, while the men in green escaped a scare, their bowling attack’s lacklustre performance without Shaheen Afridi has worried the fans.
With two back-to-back games scheduled, Pakistan decided to rest Shaheen and Haris Rauf against the UAE. In the first inning, the men in green scored 207 runs, with Saim Ayub taking the lead at 69 runs off 38 balls. Hasan Nawaz also hit a half-century.
Fans Worry About Pakistan’s Bowling Attack
However, in the second inning, Pakistan’s bowling struggled to keep UAE batters quiet. Hasan Ali, the senior-most pacer of the lineup, conceded 47 runs in 4 overs with 3 wickets.
Salman Mirza also leaked 43 runs, while Mohammad Nawaz proved to be the most economical bowler with a 5.20 economy rate.
That being said, despite Pakistan’s 31-run victory, fans on social media addressed the dire state of the team’s bowling attack in the absence of Shaheen Afridi. Many urged the management to value Afridi more and focus on finding new talent who can share his workload.
"Without Shaheen Afridi's firepower, Pakistan's bowling lacked its usual sharpness today. His aggressive opening spells were truly missed. Hope to see him back, fit and firing soon!" - @HammadKurar
"Hasan Ali struggling & getting belted for three sixes in a row by an unknown UAE player in an over. I hope people will now realize the importance of Shaheen Afridi, he’s the best we have in the entire country 🦅" - @was_abdd

"Without Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf this bowling is useless 😂" - @areeb_003
"Pakistani bowling in the absence of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf looked toothless and mediocre. Luckily the batters had posted too high a score for UAE to chase. Asif Khan totally exposed the bowling. I don’t really know what crimes Wasim has committed not to get a chance ? Experimentation is done in phases , you don’t replace A bowling attack with C bowling attack . Hassan Ali seems to be over the hill. Does anyone remember Jahandad Khan ? Is all these circus to keep playing Fahim Ashraf ? Ridiculous. Your thoughts ?" - @ayazkhan317

Shaheen Afridi has been drafted into Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025. His other senior peers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, however, were dropped due to inconsistent performance and unforgiving failures.
