Saika, Shreyanka keep ENG down at 126
For the third time in succession in this series, Indian new-ball pacer Renuka Singh struck twice in her opening spell by removing both English openers cheaply within the powerplay. At 26-3, captain Heather Knight (52) and wicketkeeper Amy Jones (25) led England’s recovery with a 41-run defiance before hosts spinners and recent debutants Saika Ishaque and Shreyanka Patil scythed through the visitor’s middle-order with three wickets each.
Amanjot Kaur accounted for the final two wickets on offer to fold up the Englishwomen for just 126 in 20 overs.
Mandhana anchors, Amanjot finishes it for India
Dynamic Indian opener Smriti Mandhana overcame Shafali Verma’s early dismissal at the hands of Freya Kemp with handy partnerships with Jemimah Rodrigues (29) and Deepti Sharma (12) for the subsequent two wickets.
Mandhana herself top scored in the innings with a run-a-ball 48 before becoming the first of two of Sophie Ecclestone’s victims at the brink of the finishing line.
As the game headed towards a potentially thrilling finish, all-rounder Amanjot Kaur bludgeoned three boundaries in her four-ball 13* alongside captain Harmanpreet Kaur (6*) to seal the deal for her side with an over and five wickets to spare.
