The second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will commence from either the second or third week of February next year, as confirmed by the BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

He also confirmed that the entire tournament will be taking place within one state, much like its inaugural chapter back in March 2023.

While speaking with the reporters on the sidelines of WPL 2024 auction in Mumbai, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the much-awaited season will be entirely taking place within a single state and will commence from mid-February onwards next year.

Here's what Jay Shah said

“It is decided that we will have the tournament in February, most probably we will start in the second or third week. As far as the venue is concerned, it will be held in one state only so that it is better logistically.”

Shah added that the possible states currently in consideration to host WPL 2024 in its entirety are Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat or Bangalore. While they are yet to reach a conclusion, the top BCCI official confirmed that the final decision will be a joint call between franchises and the board and they will be confirming the state soon.

Earlier this year, the inaugural WPL season took place entirely within two venues, the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and in the city’s adjoining DY Patil Stadium. As many as 22 matches were played out in double round-robin and playoffs format between five competitors, with Mumbai Indians emerging as winners in the night of the final.
