India Women are all set to come up against Australia Women in a three-match ODI series, with the first game taking place on Thursday, December 28th, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India Women

The women in blue will be playing their first ODI since the famous tied third ODI against Bangladesh Women in July earlier this year. A lot has changed since then as there is a completely new-look women’s ODI side which will take the field against Australia.

New names like Shreyanka Patil, Mannat Kashyap, Saika Ishaque and Titas Sadhu got their maiden ODI call-up. Patil, who introduced herself to the world earlier while playing for RCB in the Women’s Premier League, made her T20I debut against England recently.

Additionally, Kashyap and Sadhu were part of India women’s U-19 World Cup winning squad back in February. Ishaque, lastly, was one of the best performers for Mumbai Indians in their title winning WPL campaign.

Overall, a pretty balanced squad on paper to take on the reigning world champions and finally put them on the backfoot to get hands on that maiden ODI series against them.

Australia Women

The Australians are coming on the back of a 2-0 ODI series win over West Indies at home, where the likes of Kim Garth, Annabel Sutherland and Alana King were the major contributors.

Noticeably, the Aussies have got a pretty good record playing this form of the game in this part of the world. The Indian side faced a humiliating 3-0 defeat the last time Australia came over to India for a three-match ODI series back in 2018.

They will be looking to sustain their good record in India, be at their best in the three one-dayers and make things equal after losing the one-off Test earlier last week. An Australian side, eyeing redemption, can be very devastating for the opposition.

It is pretty much the same squad from the one-off Test with only Lauren Cheatle returning home after the Test.

IND-W vs AUS-W 1st ODI: Wankhede Stadium, Pitch Report

The surface at the Wankhede Stadium is expected to be favorable for seam bowlers as usual. The seamers will be assisted with some early seam movements and a pretty good bounce off the surface. Spin bowlers might come into the play in the first half of the game as well. However, batters can still play their shots with short boundaries enhancing the scoring opportunities. The team winning the toss should elect to bowl first.
