Sneh Rana, Gayakwad crumble AUS within 16 overs

New-ball pacer Pooja Vastrakar trapped Ashleigh Gardner in her opening over of the day to break Australia’s overnight partnership, while Sneh Rana dismissed Annabel Sutherland and Alana King in succession a while later to finish with career-best figures of 4-63.

Rana’s spin mate Rajeshwari Gayakwad mopped up the final two wickets on offer, thus restricting the Australian lead to just 74 runs. The visitors managed to add just 28 more to their overnight score at the expense of five wickets, as they were folded up for 261 in just 15.4 overs on the fourth morning.

Smriti Mandhana pens easy Indian win in run-chase

Shafali Verma’s first-over dismissal at the hands of Kim Garth made little difference to Smriti Mandhana’s intentions, who top-scored in the Indian innings with an unbeaten 38.

The star opener shared 51 runs with Richa Ghosh before the latter was trapped by Ashleigh Gardner at the brink of the finishing line, thus ensuring an untimely arrival of number four Jemimah Rodrigues into the crease.

Mandhana clubbed six boundaries in her innings, including one of them to seal the deal as Team India romped home to an eight-wicket win with nearly two sessions to spare.

The outcome marked a historic occasion for India, considering it was their first win in Test cricket against Australia.
