The most anticipated First Test between South Africa and India is underway at Supersport Park in Centurion. Virat Kohli as usual showed his brilliance with a classical straight drive to mark his arrival in the middle .
Facing the fiery Nandre Burger on debut, in the 16th over, Kohli welcomed the left-arm seamer with a glorious off-drive past mid-off. Burger, who sent back Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill earlier in the spell, pitched the ball up straight and the modern-day master elegantly pushed for a boundary.
The ball seemed to have moved away from the right-hander after pitching but Kohli, who is so good at getting over the ball, timed it to perfection to get a picturesque four. The crowd in Centurion erupted with joy as that is the kind of shot for which people travel for hours despite knowing the rain being around.
Here's Kohli's drive for boundary off Nandre Burger
The shot not only added four runs for India on the board but also gave us an idea about the kind of form Kohli is in despite being out of action for more than a month.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and asked India to bat in perfect bowling conditions. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings with the former getting out early to Kagiso Rabada while playing his favorite pull shot.
Debutant Nandre Burger was right on the money from his very first ball as he dismissed Jaiswal and Gill early to reduce India to 3 down with only 24 on the board.
However, since then the duo of Kohli and Shreyas Iyer has done really well to get India out of trouble and go to Lunch at 91 for without losing any further wicket.
