In a significant turn of events, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has surpassed former openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag in a batting feat. 

The veteran opener, who hammered a blistering fifty, overtook the legendary duo in most runs scored by an Indian against Sri Lanka in ODIs.

Rohit has enjoyed stellar success against Sri Lanka in the 50-over format. The talismanic batter has two ODI double tons to his name against the island nation. 

Before being cleaned up by Dilshan Madushanka, Rohit smashed 83 runs off 67 balls with the help of nine fours and three sixes. His blistering knock paved the way for a massive total for India, placed at 185 for 2 in 25 overs as of writing.
