Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) franchise the Sydney Thunder have sacked coach Trevor Griffin, after their abysmal performance in the last edition. Under Griffin, the Thunder won just one match in BBL 2022, to finish at the bottom place.

Griffin is the second top-level coach sacked by Cricket New South Wales in a span of six weeks. Griffin joined Thunder in 2019, and guided them to a WBBL title win in 2020 before finishing second-last in the 2021 edition.

The franchise are yet to announce a suitable replacment. In a statement, Griffin thanked the Thunder administration for his four-year stay.

Here's what Griffin said

"It's been an amazing opportunity and one I'm incredibly proud of: a huge honour, and I've built memories and friendships for life,. I'm excited to see what the future holds for everyone."

Earlier, NSW fired Phil Jaques, with the state side occupying last positions in both the Shieffield Shield and Marsh Cup, respectively.
