Rohit Sharma, one of India’s greatest batters, whose place in ODIs was under scrutiny, created a world record on Sunday as he surpassed former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi in a historic milestone. He smacked his 352nd six and became the player with the most sixes in the history of 50-overs format.

Before the game, Rohit had 349 sixes, and Shahid Afridi stood tall with 351. However, with 3 sixes against the Proteas, Rohit became the undisputed six-king.

Most sixes in ODI cricket as Rohit surpasses Shahid Afridi

• The ‘Hitman’ of the Indian team, Rohit, surpassed Shahid Afridi and now occupies the top spot. Interestingly, while Afridi needed nearly 400 ODIs to achieve the feat, Rohit broke the record in almost 120-less ODIs as he became the undisputed six-hitter.
• Legendary West Indian batter, Chris Gayle sits at the third place, as the southpaw had hammered 331 big hits in just 301 ODI matches.
• Sanath Jayasuriya occupies the fourth spot in the table as the Sri Lankan great had smacked 270 sixes in 441 matches, while MS Dhoni, the former India skipper sits at the fifth place with 229 hits in 350 matches.

Rohit stands tall in another six-hitting feat

Not only in ODIs, but Rohit also stands tall when it comes to the most sixes hit in international cricket across formats. The record was achieved a couple of years ago, but this showcases his six-hitting prowess as a top order batter.

Across formats (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), Rohit has smacked 642 sixes, and the next best is Chris Gayle, who is left miles behind (553). Shahid Afridi, Brendon McCullum, and Jos Buttler complete the list of five batters with most sixes across formats.
