The fifth day's play of the ongoing second Test between India and England is all set to kick off at 5.10 PM IST and 12.40 PM local time after a rain delay of around one hour and forty minutes. The much-anticipated contest couldn't get a scheduled start, with rain playing spoilsport at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Ten overs have officially been lost; thus, it will be an eighty-over contest on the final day in Birmingham.
Revised Session Timings For Day 5 Of IND vs ENG 2nd Test
- 1st session - 12:40-14:30 local time
- Lunch - 14:30-15:10 local time
- 2nd session - 15:10-17:10 local time
- Tea - 17:10-17:30 local time
- 3rd session - 17:30-19:00 local time
As mentioned above, the first session will be played from 12.40 PM to 2.30 PM local time, i.e. 5:10 PM to 7 PM IST. So, the lunch break has officially been delayed by one and a half hours to make up for the time lost due to a persistent downpour.
The post-lunch session will kickstart at 7.40 PM, with the tea break rescheduled for 9.40 PM IST. Meanwhile, the final session will be played from 10 PM to 11.30 PM IST.
India In A Commanding Position At Edgbaston
Riding on Shubman Gill's sensational century and valuable contributions from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, India posted a whopping 427-run total in the second innings.
In response, England had a disastrous start to the run chase, losing crucial wickets of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Joe Root in the final session on day 4. Akash Deep was the star of the day for India, scalping two out of the three wickets. As of writing, the hosts were 73 for three, with Pope and Brook batting on 24* and 16*, respectively.
