Former England cricketer Stuart Broad heaped massive praise on Akash Deep following his impressive outing in the ongoing Edgbaston Test. After India set a daunting 608-run target, Akash Deep cleaned up Ben Duckett and Joe Root, helping India gain a crucial advantage at the fag end of day four.
Stuart Broad Lauds Akash Deep's Skills
Akash Deep has had a memorable Test at Edgbaston. In Jasprit Bumrah's absence, the fast bowler stepped up as the perfect fiddle to Mohammed Siraj, scalping six wickets thus far.
In his post-day analysis, legendary fast bowler Stuart Broad revealed why the right-arm seamer has succeeded with the Duke's ball in his maiden Test outing in England.
Broad reckoned that Akash Deep's ability to extract seam movement and bring the stumps into play makes him deadly in the English conditions.
"He brings the stumps into play, nips the ball - even with the second new ball with Harry Brook (in the first innings) - through the gate and off stump out of the ground," Broad told Sky Sports, as quoted by Times Now.
The talismanic Test cricketer further went on to call Akash Deep a real threat, highlighting why he could be a player to watch out for with the new ball in the first session on day 5.
"He's a real threat and, you know, India have to use him wisely again on the final day. He's bowled wicket-taking balls tonight. Start with him tomorrow while the ball's hard and while the ball's still got a bit of newness to it, and then maybe if he needs a rest until the next new ball comes, that's fine," Broad added.
Akash Deep Likely To Retain His Slot For Lord's Test
Although Akash Deep is uncertain about his place in the Indian playing XI, India won't likely bench him upon Jasprit Bumrah's comeback for the Lord's Test. In such a scenario, he could lead the Indian pace attack with Bumrah and Siraj for the third match of the series.
