Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh heaped a significant praise on Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Attacking Australian opener Travis Head also echoed Marsh’s views, and even described Pant as the “most Australian cricketer” present in the current Indian line-up.

Mitchell Marsh says Rishabh Pant a “ripping bloke”

In an interaction with the Star Sports Network ahead of the 2024-25 BGT series, Australian cricketers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head expressed their profound admirations for Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. Marsh, who has spent time with Pant in IPL for the Delhi Capitals, described the 27-year-old player a ‘ripping bloke’ who ‘loves winning’.

Moreover, Marsh even added that he wishes Rishabh Pant was an ‘Australian’ cricketer instead. The Australian all-rounder also hailed Pant’s return to competitive cricket after sustaining a near-fatal car accident back in December 2022.

Travis Head, meanwhile, called the Indian stumper the “most Australian cricketer” of the current ‘Men in Blue’ line-up.

Rishabh Pant is expected to travel to Australia along with the rest of his Indian teammates this November for a blockbuster five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. The first of the five Tests will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth between November 22 and November 26.

It is worth noting that Pant played a huge role in India’s successive series wins in Australia back in 2019 and 2021. During India’s 2018-19 expedition, the aggressive wicketkeeper-batter belted a belligerent 159 at the SCG to extinguish all hopes of an Australian win. He also pounded scores of 97 and 89* in the final two Tests of the 2020-21 tour to headline a remarkable victory for the tourists.

As of now, Rishabh Pant is playing against Bangladesh in a two-match series at home. He recently struck a match-winning ton at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium to take India 1-0 ahead in the series.
